Nicky Butt tips Ro-Shaun Williams for first-team breakthrough this season

Nicky Butt’s tipping Ro-Shaun Williams to make the grade at Old Trafford (Picture:Getty Images)Manchester United Under-19 coach Nicky Butt believes defender Ro-Shaun Williams has all the qualities needed to make a first-team breakthrough under Louis van Gaal.The 17-year-old has formed a formidable centre-back partnership with fellow sensation Axel Tuanzebe this season and was key to the Red Devils’ 0-0 draw with CSKA Moscow on Tuesday.Williams made headlines last year when he broke a long-standing 100 metre record held by Olympic gold medalist sprinter Darren Campbell at the¬†Ashton-on-Mersey school in Cheshire by running the distance in just 10.99 seconds.And Butt, who also came through the Red Devils’ academy, believes Williams can make the grade at Old Trafford after his performance in midweek.The defender is already an England U18 international (Picture:Getty Images)‘The lads at the back were brilliant. The way we performed meant we played a lot of the time one vs one as well,’ said Butt.‘It’s a really good thing and something you’ve got to do if you play for Manchester United at the top level – defend one vs one.‘I thought they did that and I was really confident with them doing that. They proved to me they’re more than capable of playing at a high level.
