Blatter FIFA appeal hearing on February 16

Joseph Blatter’s appeal against an eight-year football ban will likely be heard by FIFA’s appeal committee on February 16, football’s governing physique confirmed Friday.

The hearing comes ten days prior to FIFA holds an extraordinary congress in Zurich to elect a successor as president to Blatter.

On February 15, the appeals committee will hear an appeal by UEFA president Michel Platini against his eight-year ban.

Blatter and Platini were banned inside a ruling by the adjudicatory chamber of FIFA’s ethics committee on December 21.

The adjudicatory chamber ruled there were ethics breaches regarding a “disloyal payment” of 2 million Swiss francs (about two million dollars) produced to Platini in 2011.

Blatter, 79, who has presided more than FIFA given that 1998, wanted to lay down his mandate as FIFA president at the extraordinary congress.

Former France playing star Platini, 60, had initially hoped to succeed him, but withdrew his candidacy early this month following the ban.
